Scenario: We have an external website/domain that we want to redirect to our Easterseals affiliate website (or to a specific page on our Easterseals affiliate website). For example, we would like "www.eastersealsci.com" to redirect to "https://www.easterseals.com/ci/".
National can redirect an external domain to your Easterseals affiliate website through the use of a Virtual Domain. To do so, National will work with Blackbaud Support who can configure the Virtual Domain on their end.
To set up a Virtual Domain, follow the steps below:
- First, have your IT team configure the DNS settings (A Record and CNAME) for the external domain to point to the Blackbaud servers. The A Record and C Name values are as follows:
Hostname Type Name Data TTL Domain without the 'www' (ex. eastersealsci.com) A @ 74.123.152.171 3600 (1 Hour) Domain with the 'www' (ex. www.eastersealsci.com ) CNAME www es-live.convio.net 3600 (1 Hour) - Submit a Freshdesk ticket and provide the following information:
- The external domain or subdomain
- The URL for the Easterseals affiliate webpage you wish to redirect to
Note: Virtual domains are for HTTP/non-secure URLs. HTTPS variants of a virtual domain will not perform a redirect. You can redirect an HTTP virtual domain to an HTTPS destination, but an HTTPS URL will encounter an error in the browser indicating a security conflict due to the lack of SSL certificate found for the origin URL. Some DNS providers offer services to implement https redirects. Please discuss with your DNS provider to see if they have options. If your DNS provider doesn't offer this search you can complete a web search for "DNS HTTPS redirects" to find 3rd party vendors with this service.
